SEARCH ENGINE MISTAKES
NORTH CAROLINA SEO
We received calls daily from businesses that have paid
THOUSANDS of dollars to unscrupulous companies that have promised
search engine ranking that they can not deliver. We are often
asked how WE obtain top 10 search engine rankings for our clients. While it
is not our job to teach our methods to clients or other design
firms, we can tell you that it isn't rocket science. In
fact, obtaining top rankings on the search engines is more "grunt"
work than it is a science. Getting your website ranked in
the top of the major search engines involves more common sense
than "dollars and cents".
However, that is not the story you will get from a lot of
so-called search engine experts.
We own more than 120+ websites of our own and because of that we
are contacted by the same people that may have called on you.
Their sales pitch sounds something like, "Hi, I was looking at
your website and it's very attractive, but I noticed that your
site can't be found on the major search engines."
They make the same sales pitch to everyone they call...whether a
website is performing well or not. Why? The are playing a
numbers game. They have the knowledge that the VAST majority
of websites rarely get looked at! Doubt us? Do ANY search and you
will find more than a million results for almost any search you
do. How many websites will YOU look at? Three or four?
Ten...maybe a few more? Now do the math. Divide
1,000,000 into the ten or twelve sites YOU looked at. That
means that more than 99.9999% of the others sites that were below
the first 10-20 didn't get looked at. Try 100, 1000, or
10,000 more searches and you will find the same results over and
over again.
Armed with this knowledge, these SEO sales companies can make
their claim 100 times and 99 of those times they will reach a
potential client that will agree with them. The problem with a lot
of these businesses is that they make claims that they simply can
not deliver on.
DON'T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT...HERE IS WHAT THE NUMBER ONE SEARCH
ENGINE (Google.com) says at:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/2.html
Here's an excerpt:
"Many SEOs
provide useful services for website owners, from writing copy to
giving advice on site architecture and helping to find relevant
directories to which a site can be submitted. However, there are a
few unethical SEOs who have given the industry a black eye through
their overly aggressive marketing efforts and their attempts to
unfairly manipulate search engine results.
While Google does not have relationships with any SEOs and does
not offer recommendations, we do have a few tips that may help you
distinguish between an SEO that will improve your site and one
that will only improve your chances of being dropped from search
engine results altogether.
Be wary of SEO firms that send you email out of the blue.
Amazingly, we (Google) get these spam emails too:
"Dear google.com,
I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most
of the major search engines and directories..."
Reserve the same skepticism for unsolicited email about search
engines as you do for "burn fat at night" diet pills or requests
to help transfer funds from deposed dictators.
No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.
Beware of SEO's that claim to guarantee rankings, or that claim a
"special relationship" with Google, or that claim to have a
"priority submit" to Google. There is no priority submit for
Google. In fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly
is by using the page at
http://www.google.com/addurl.html . You can
do this yourself at no cost whatsoever. " |
What are some other things to look out for?
There are a few warning signs you may be dealing with a rogue SEO.
It's far from a comprehensive list, so if you have any doubts, you
should trust your instincts. By all means, feel free to walk away
if the SEO:
-
owns shadow domains
-
puts links to their other clients on doorway pages
-
offers to sell keywords in the address bar
-
doesn't distinguish between actual search results and ads that
appear in search results
-
guarantees ranking, but only on obscure, long keyword phrases you
would
get anyway
-
operates with multiple aliases or falsified WHOIS info
-
gets traffic from "fake" search engines, spyware, or scumware
-
has had domains removed from Google's index or is not itself
listed in Google

DON'T BE FOOLED BY COMPANIES MISREPRESENTING WHAT THEY CAN DO FOR
YOU. If a company guarantees you top ranking on any or all
of the search engines, they are lying. AppNet has been performing
search engine coding for websites for almost ten years and we are
contacted regularly by companies guaranteeing top ranking and
we've seen pricing ranging from $199 to $5000 yearly. We own
websites ourselves and many of these supposed search engine
professionals claim that they can attain top rankings within ONE
DAY, 48 HOURS and more!
We invite you to call us (collect if
you prefer) at 828-963-7286, use our quick
Online Contact Request Form,
email us, or
call our Toll Free VOICE MAIL at 800-783-3293 and leave a
message. We promise to only answer you with the facts that
you need to get you where you want to be. No pressure, no
sales pitch.
